About the Artist

My name is Peter Laubscher.

I enjoy painting the beauty I see and feel in the environment. Born in South Africa I now live in Lower Hutt, a city in the Wellington region of New Zealand. I emigrated to New Zealand in 2006.

From early on, I have enjoyed working in line and watercolour wash with architectural and landscape themes. This medium lent itself to my doing illustration work for postcards and a book. Additionally I did watercolour drawings of family homes on commission. Sign painting with specialized artwork and murals for shop-fronts has also been an area of interest over the years. My work now is more in acrylic, having sold in a few markets and galleries near Cape Town, South Africa, my country of origin. I enjoy painting landscapes and botanical subjects from small canvasses to large decorative panels, leaning toward stylisation rather than realism.

My art focusses on the natural world, and I have a passion for landscapes and botanical themes, from small to large decorative panels. My other projects explore the bounty of the sea, in particular painting pictures of ornamental fish of New Zealand. These are hand-painted, hand-made and can be made-to-order and box-framed.

I now have a creative space of my own and look forward to spending more time on my art.
